Milk in school

Today we had our first carton of milk that is provided for all school children by Fonterra.
We collected it from the fridge so it was lovely and cold. After we had finished our milk we had to learn how to make the carton flat and put the straw inside the flat empty carton. The last thing we had to do was to post the flat carton into the blue milk carton recycling wheelie bin.
Such excitement for us all!

What Does Greedy Cat Like?

We all painted a picture of Greedy Cat. Then we used words to make a sentence about our picture. We had to put the words in order so the sentence made sense and we had to leave spaces between the words. Read our story and look at our amazing paintings.

Reading Time in room 21

Every day we have reading.
We have been learning all the parts of a book, how to handle a book correctly and how to use the pictures to find clues about what the story is about.
Mrs Boyd loves it when we point carefully and accurately to the words as we read.
We are noticing different kinds of punctuation in books. We know that ... is called an ellipse and that it means 'more to come'. We also know that ! is called an exclamation mark and that means we need to 'add emphasis'.

READING IS FUN!

'f' is the first letter at the beginning of flowers

Fabulous flowers for MUM. They had a beautiful smell.

Learning the Language of length, counting out blocks and matching numeral cards to our dog's body length. Fun with our 'long dogs'.

Which dog is longer? The boys chose different numbers and counted blocks out to make the bodies of the 'long dogs'. Then they talked about which dog was longer or which dog was shorter. They counted out how many blocks longer or shorter each dog was.
SO MUCH COUNTING
We have been learning the language of length.

The Fabulous Five

These are the 'Fabulous Five' children who have started in Room 21. Mrs Boyd was VERY happy
to welcome them to Havelock North Primary.

During the next few months we will have some new friends join us. We are looking forward to welcoming them and helping them settle into our classroom.
The 'Fabulous Five' will help Mrs Boyd every day, in every way and have great fun with their learning journey.

Learning to read and write 'I am' on my first day at school.

On our first day at school we all learned how to read and write 'I am'. Room 21 superstars!

Brain food in Room 21.

These lovely children are so good at making healthy choices for their morning brain food snack.

Plums, apples, water melon, grapes, blueberries, carrot sticks... such good brain food.

Well done children and keep                    it up.
